Construction of the third plant for production of hot briquetted iron (HBI) and modernization of the second HBI plant are the most important strategic focal point for development of Lebedinsky GOK (Lebendinsky Iron Ore Combine, JSC). The article displays that modernization of the pelletizing plant is the key to tackle this goal. Authors have covered the three main directions, which were dealt with in the recent time and are the most prospective. These directions include improvement of the quality of produced pellets, reduction of the power consumption as well as improvement of the thermal circuit (gas fl ow and thermal patterns) of the kilns which are producing pellets for HBI. The method of step-by-step modernization of kilns, taking into account the features of equipment and produced pellets and developed by NPVP TOREX, has been used during realization of this project. This step-by-step modernization is combined with capital repairs and technical maintenance of the technological equipment, and it allowed to decrease downtimes of equipment (connected with reconstruction) as well as to minimize economical losses.
