Sheet metal is often used in machine-building mass production for fabrication of initial blanks of pipe-like parts with or without a bottom. This sheet metal is a semiproduct for cutting the rounds with subsequent convolution and deep drawing on press equipment. This technology is characterized by high productivity at a low cost due to the high rate of deformation of asheet blank in press equipment and low cost of sheet products. However, these economic advantages of the described technology are accompanied by large values of technological errors, both in stamped blanks and pipe-like parts made of these blanks by treating the base and butt surfaces in metal cutting machines. It was established via the statistical methods that the exit beyond the tolerance field reaches up to 30 % of the total number of parts in the batch. This can be explained byheterogeneity of the material properties of a blank in cross section, because the impact strength value of sheet metal in the longitudinal direction is 2 times greater than that in the transverse direction. Preparation of a workpiece blank for machining via combined technology, including use of hot-rolled thick-walled tube as initialbillet is an alternative to the described technology. It is followed by cutting operations, preliminary machining of the externaland internal cylindrical surfaces, trimming of the ends and, most importantly, rotational extrusion and drawing. Practical effect of this technology is in homogeneity of the material properties of a blank in its cross section, what finalizes in increased accuracy of straightness of the walls and the axis of manufactured billet. Obtained properties are largely copied to the finished product, providing almost twofold reserve of accuracy, what the opens prospects for further improvements of operating efficiency of these products.
