Abstract

Modern mining companies need qualifi ed specialists possessing sufficient skills to develop ideas, to find unconventional solutions and to implement cost-efficient projects. A methodological aspect of fulfillment of production requirements is the professional becoming of the graduates, which is impossible without the practice-oriented training. The practice-oriented approach to education at the UMMC Technical University consists in the step-by-step formation of professional skills of a to-be mining engineer. One of the key provisions of reaching the goal is an efficient system of laboratory and practical work aimed to enable a student to plan and organize efficiently individual exploratory activities, to solidify basic theoretical knowledge and to learn to predict, project and ingeniously solve education and production tasks. In the framework of educational activities, based on the new requirements placed on the competence of mining engineers in the sphere of knowledge on interaction between natural and mine-technical systems, conditions and technological designs of mineral mining and processes, perception of principles of “green” technologies and environmental protection, the UMMC Technical University has shaped a practice-oriented concept of the intelligent learning-and-research laboratory park aimed to train specialists capable to meet challenges facing the mining industry in these days, such as sustainable development, resource saving, effectivization and automation of operations, production and ecological safety. The laboratory park at the UMMC Technical University includes, inter alia, Mineral Mining Computer Modeling Laboratory equipped with the programming support offered by the top modern design engineers on the market of geoinformation systems (Micromine, Surpac, Mainfraim etc.); Geology, Geodesy and Surveying Laboratory; Smart Energy System Laboratory; Smart Motor Laboratory and Automate Control System Laboratory. The practice-oriented approach to training specialists of the Ural Mining and Metallurgy Company allows the UMMC Technical University to prepare professional personnel tailored and adapted to specific production units of the Company.
