Abstract | Having analyzed the international experience gained in the improvement of underground mining technologies, it is proposed to apply the cut-fill method of stoping with cemented backfill in a chromite mine of Donskoy Ore Mining and Processing Plant (Republic of Kazakhstan). The design choices and production decisions elaborated during testing of the proposed method at a pilot site of the mine are expounded. The 10 Years of Independence of Kazakhstan Mine of the Plant is the world’s largest producer of chrome ore with the annual output of round 2.5 Mt. In the long view, it is envisaged to reach the ore output to 6 Mt per year. The backfilling concept at Donskoy OMPP includes both advanced technologies and also mining and processing waste management to handle ecological problems. Waste materials are studied with a view to applying them in the capacity of inert aggregate. Cement–slag and serpentine-based binders are developed. The optimal compositions of backfill mixtures using screenings of serpentine rocks and tailings are determined. The constructed plant for backfill preparation based on mining and processing waste is described. Owing to the positive results of the pilot tests and due to introduction of innovative technologies of mining and processing, Donskoy OMPP supplies the domestic ferroalloy plants with the first-class primary products. |
