Abstract

Corrosion often determines service life of any manufactured component. Only fundamental understanding of corrosion processes allows to develop new strategies for corrosion protection and is a prerequisite for reliable forecast of appearance of defects. Max Planck Institute of Iron Research (MPIE) is the leading scientific and research center in this field.
