Abstract

A special feature of lead during the pyrometallurgical processing of raw materials is its ability to sublimate and concentrate in metallurgical dust. Due to the fact that dust is used in copper-nickel production, the task to remove lead out of it is of great current interest. On the base of laboratory studies, a technological scheme has been developed for the processing of fine dusts of nickel concentrate roasting in fluidized bed furnaces retained in electrostatic precipitators of the Kola Mining and Metallurgical Company refining plant. The scheme is based on the water leaching of non-ferrous metals sulphates and subsequent leaching lead out of the residue using chloride solutions. To separate lead in leaded cake, the chloride solution is diluted by sulphatecontaining solutions. According to the research results, a project has been developed and a roasting dust deleading area has been built. Industrial tests of the technology enabled to optimize the process and ensure high lead extraction with obtaining leaded cakes containing up to 66% of lead. During the industrial testing period, 295 kg of lead were removed out of dust to the cake. In accordance with the assessment, at the stable operation of the production area no less than 9 tons of lead per year can be extracted into the cake that will improve the quality of cathode nickel at Kola MMC, reduce the amount of lead in the shop's turnover, increase the complexity of using raw materials, and expand the range of products sold by JSC Kola MMC.
