The analysis of the main current trends in subsoil management in Russia and abroad is performed. The potential for the further development of the mineral resource complex is estimated overall and particularly in exploration and production sphere. The main goal of analysis is to identify opportunities for effective reproduction of the mineral resource base of the country and the rational management of subsoil. The scale and complexity of the strategic objectives are shown for the development of the Russian mineral resources base and guaranteed long-term internal natural resources supply for mining complex of the country. The main problems of the exploration development as a part of the domestic mineral resources complex are identified. The role of the state through the function of corporate management is shown, when it acts as a regulator, controller and guarantor of the rules of return on investment, compliance an industry requirements and standards for exploration, production, HSE and other. Characteristics of socially important tasks are presented, including stimulation of investment during a recession and sanctions impact period, reducing the significance of short-term fluctuations in the raw market and implementation of state support in the management of labor forces. The foreign experience is critically evaluated for the Russian exploration development system and integration into the Russian mineral resource complex. The main ways of the further improvement of the exploration and production models are presented.
