Abstract

The paper considers the application of resonance-pulsating refining technology (RPR) to improve the quality of cast iron and steel products in JSC «EVRAZ ZSMK». The essence of such refi ning is to impose vibrations on the metal by pulsating blowing, in the spectrum of which there is a low-frequency component that coincides with the natural frequency of vibrations of the metal in the bucket. When choosing the optimal frequency of lance pulsations and modes of purging iron with nitrogen in the industrial ladle, physical and mathematical modeling was applied. This technology is used both in the production of molds from blast furnace pig iron and induction melting iron, and in continuous casting of steel. The technology is relatively simple and easily fi ts into existing production. Technology for many years used in JSC «EVRAZ ZSMK» Technology has significantly increased the density of castings of iron from 6890–6900 to 7000–7200 kg/m3, the mechanical properties of iron and performance of its products. At 15-minute purge of metal, complete removal of ripe inclusions and obtaining uniform, homogeneous forms of graphite in the structure of cast iron was noted. Service durability of products made of cast iron subjected to this type of processing is greatly increased. The RPR technology used at the CCM allows to reduce the saturation of the metal jet with nitrogen at a flow rate of argon 15÷20 l/min to the level of 0.0001–0.0004%.The effectiveness of this technology is at the level of the best domestic and foreign indicators.
