Abstract

Intensive mineral mining with ever-growing volume of mined-out underground voids and increasing depths in the recent years governs actuation of geodynamic processes and phenomena in rock masses. The major hazard is caused by tectonic-type rock bursts accompanied by instantaneous failure and fall of roof and sidewalls in underground excavations under the action of elastic energy accumulated in a block rock mass. The procedure is proposed for predicting zones of tectonic stresses and geodynamic hazards in rock mass. The well-timed and reliable prediction and prevention of geodynamic events will enable efficient managerial decision-making on enhanced safety of mines being designed, constructed and operated in difficult geological and geodynamic conditions. The recommendations will make it possible to mitigate adverse aftereffects and to prevent accidents and catastrophes induced by construction and operation of mines in block-structure rock masses in the areas of high tectonic activity. As a result, it is expected to gain from the increased economic performance and competitive ability of mining companies on the Russian and global markets of metals, as well as from the improved economic stability of the companies.
The study was supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and by the Ministry of Culture, Education, Science and Sports of Mongolia, Project No. 19-510-44013\19.
