Abstract |
The quality characteristics of foundry coke are formed at the production stage and changed at the subsequent stages of the life cycle. The "customer delivery" stage happens after the production and before the use of foundry coke. According to the GOST R 9001-2015 requirements, foundry coke quality must be managed on all stages of the life cycle. This paper considers the impact of the life cycle on the quality of foundry coke using the "customer delivery" stage as an example. To estimate the degree of destruction of foundry coke sample during transportation, we introduced a destruction index, which is a relative change in the mass of samples (RT, %). Tests have shown that 20% to 40% of samples, depending on the batch, of the 80 mm and larger size class split and formed coke of the 60–80 mm and smaller than 40 mm size classes, and 20% of samples of the 60–80 mm size class split and formed the smaller than 40 mm size class. At the same time, the 80 mm and larger size class remained completely the same. The content of the 80 mm and larger size class decreased by 6.2% on average after transporting over a distance of 2,100 km, while the content of the 60–80 mm and smaller than 40 mm size classes increased by 5.55% and 0.7% on average respectively. After transporting foundry coke over a distance of 900 km, the content of the smaller than 40 mm size class increases by 0.25–1.41% depending on the batch. The largest increase of content of the smaller than 40 mm size class is typical for foundry coke with a minimum strength value of M40. After transporting foundry coke over a distance of 300, 900, and 2100 km, the smallest destruction index RT was observed for the batch with the maximum strength value of M40. After changing the transportation distance from 900 to 2100 km, the destruction index increased from 0.68% to 1.1% depending on the coke batch. |
