Abstract

Selective crushing technologies help solving energy efficiency problems and reducing capital costs, yet their implementation is associated with high industrial testing investment. Simulation modeling enables an initial assessment of solutions proposed and outlines further improvement possibilities without large-scale industrial tests. This work studies the applicability of selective crushing-based ore preparation processes for non-oxidized ferruginous quartzites of the Mikhailovskoye deposit. The following three ore preparation processes were compared: four-stage crushing; application of high-pressure grinding rolls at the fine crushing stage; and medium and fine crushing replacement by wet autogenous grinding. The results of the JK Drop Weight Test and size distribution studies for iron and silicon oxides were used to establish the physical and mechanical features of raw material crushing, subsequently used as the initial data in the simulation. Simulation modeling using the JKSimMet software package has shown that the use of high-pressure grinding rolls and autogenous grinding mills allows obtaining ball grinding stage size distributions without significant regrinding of the material, as well as reduces the load on the dry magnetic separation operation and the first grinding stage.
The work was carried out with the financial support of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (project No. 20-55-12002).
