Abstract

Formation of the cross-sectional profile of cold-rolled strips during rolling is influenced by a number of factors: the cross-sectional profile of the ingoing strip, machine roll profiling, temperature profile, bending and flattening of the work rolls, as well as their wear. Taking into account the degree of influence of factors on the formation of an active generatrix, the main attention in this message is paid to flattening of work rolls. A number of methods for evaluating the elastic flattening of rolls along the length of the barrel are considered, and an analysis is made of the influence of the features of roll flattening in edge zones on the transverse profile shape. A method for calculating elastic flattening based on the Boussinesq solution with Nakajima – Matsumoto refinements was chosen and used as the basis for a complex model for predicting the transverse profile. The use of the model will make it possible to estimate with high accuracy the effect of rolling parameters on the transverse profile and, on this basis, effectively control the technological and production process, including planning taking into account the required width of the edge to be trimmed, selection of cold rolling modes, etc. for maximum metal savings.
