Abstract

In the coal mining industry, occupational safety is one of the critical objectives as the industry features high risk of occupational illness and injury rates due to exposure to numerous hazards during execution of work. Unfavorable climatic and ecological conditions in a coal mining region also exert an adverse effect on health and safety of miners. The aim of this study is to develop an estimation procedure for an integrated index of an associate risk of occupational diseases and injuries, including background values, and economic damage, with subsequent identification of the labor safety improvement priorities. The calculation data on the integrated occupational illness and injury risk are presented as a case-study of SUEK-Kuzbass company. It is proved that ranking of coal mines by the integrated risk dynamics criterion allows determining the priorities of occupational safety management as the maintenance of the integrated occupational illness and injury risk reduction is connected with the target financing of the labor and production safety systems of the mines affiliated in the Company. The close relation between the occupational diseases and injuries subject to their etiology is validated. The prevailing influence on the occupational injury rate is exerted by the labor difficulty. For this reason, it is proved to be necessary to implement some target compensation activities, such as the use of exo skeletons, for instance, which reduce the musculoskeleton system load, which weakens the exercise stress and prevents injuries.
