Abstract

The mining and processing enterprises producing high-quality iron concentrates by the flotation method use cationic amino-containing flotation reagents (AС-R) which are toxic and require control when released into the environment. To measure the concentration of AC-R, we have developed, certified and entered into the Federal State Information System (FSIS) the Arshin integrated procedures for measuring contents of flotation reagents based on aliphatic alkoxyamines and their salts in aqueous and solid media by gas chromatographic and spectrophotometric methods. As compared with the previously certified methods, the newly developed procedures are applicable in both liquid and solid media. These techniques can be used in the industrial environmental control and monitoring. Using these techniques, AC-R adsorption at solid phase of processing tailings and degradation of AC-R macro components in compositions of flotation tailings pulps was investigated in the model experiments. It is shown that there is no intensive degradation of the test AC-R under the studied experimental conditions, which indicates the stability of the AC-R structure under the studied conditions of the model experiment. The use of the developed procedures makes it possible to adjust environmental measures in a timely manner, and to minimize the ingress of toxic substances from iron ore flotation products into the environment.
