Abstract

The article undertakes a comprehensive study of publications on the history of the manufacturing period in Gornyi Zhurnal in the period from 1825 to 1917. The characteristic features of the publication of historical sources on the pages of the periodical are identified and described. The author focuses on the fact that Gornyi Zhurnal performed an important function which was to preserve and introduce archival documents into scientific circulation. On the basis of the historiographic analysis, the study identifies the range of authors, the main topics and genres, as well as the periods of the most active publication of historical articles in Gornyi Zhurnal. The study concludes that publications most often analyzed socio-economic problems in the history of ferrous metallurgy, and works on the history of technology appeared only in the late 19th century. The main authors of historical articles were mining engineers. The author found two chronological periods during which the historical heritage of the industry was actively studied. The first period was from 1825 to 1830 and was associated with the research agenda of the Mining Academic Committee for the study of mining history. The second, from 1860 to 1890, correlated with the need to rethink the history of domestic industry in connection with the preparation of mining reform during the reign of Alexander II. The consistent study of historical publications published in Gornyi Zhurnal from 1825 to 1917 allowed identifying the main trends in the development of domestic historiography of the ferrous metallurgy.
