Abstract

Experimental compositions of flux-cored wires for electric arc surfacing of continuous casting machine rollers have been developed for JSC Oskol Electrometallurgical Plant named after A. A. Ugarov (JSC OEMK named after A. A. Ugarov). To improve the performance properties of the deposited layers, refractory components were introduced into the charge of the widespread fluxcored wire for electric arc surfacing ASM 4603-SA: micro- and nano-dispersed tungsten carbide powders (3-12 %), as well as hexagonal boron nitride powder (0.1-0.2 %). High-temperature tribological studies (t = 500 °C) of the deposited layers were conducted. The minimum Kfr of the pair “deposited layer - counterbody material (Al2O3)” equal to 0.43, was characterized by the deposited layer ASM 5, containing 12 % nanodispersed WC and 0.2 % h-BN. The wear rate (W) of the deposited layers is (64.5 - 105.5)×10-6 mm3∙N–1∙m–1. The minimum value of W is characterized by the deposited layer ASM 1. Based on the combination of properties, the composition ASM 6 (ASM 4603-SA + WC (6 %) + h-BN (0.1 %)), which ensures the formation of a deposited layer with high hardness and satisfactory wear resistance, is recommended for surfacing a pilot batch of rollers. The conducted industrial tests established an increase in the resistance of the pilot rollers by 2 times compared to the rollers deposited using the current technological process.
