ArticleName Process design for the efficient machining of high-performance steels
ArticleAuthor D. Biermann, F. Felderhoff
Abstract

Automotive, mechanical and plant engineering require steels that meet the highest requirements concerning fatigue strength. Because these properties are influenced by the sulphur content of steels, it is beneficial to use low sulphur steels. The disadvantage of low-sulphur steels is an unfavourable machining process behaviour, because high sulphur content reduces tool wear and chip breaking is more favourable. Within the framework of this research the efficient machining of low-sulphur steels is revealed.
