Abstract
An assessment of the challenge of managing the spent nuclear fuel (SHF) from ship nuclear power units in the European north of Russia (Murmansk and Arkhangelsk regions). A solution of this challenge has been suggested, which envisages using underground SNF storage facilities. The results of investigations of thermal and nuclear safety of such storage facilities as well as a substantiation of designlayout solutions of the designed facilities are presented.
