Abstract | The opportunity of recycling of wastes of alumina production i.e. red mud, by smelting reduction Romelt process with extraction of iron and reception of hot metal is shown. Chemical and phase composition of red mud of Nalco (India) are determined. Experiments on mechanical dehydration of red mud using the filter-press are carried out. Additives are chosen and their charges for obtaining Romelt slags with optimum properties are calculated. Viscosity of slags of various compositions are determined experimentally. The possibility of using these slags for melting in Romelt furnace is shown. Technological indices of Romelt process for treatment of red mud are calculated. The techno-economical feasibility report is elaborated for construction of complex Romelt for Nalco’s conditions and its capital expenses are determined. It is shown that the cost price of Romelt pig-iron received from Nalco’s red mud is 35 % lower than the price of commercial pig-iron. |
