Abstract The paper considers the effect of carbonates of alkaline-earth metals on slag conditions during melting of synthetic cast irons in induction furnaces with acid lining. Mathematical model of the process of metal desulphuration in the furnace in the presence of calcium carbonate is built. The technique for calculation of the slag phase taking into account treatment of cast iron melts by carbonate rocks is presented.
