Abstract High requirements on the inner cleanness of steel products necessitates optimized processes with adapted analytical methods. New possibilities of determinations of macro-segregation and non-metallic inclusions are developed using optical spark emission spectroscopy. In addition to the standard concentrations of the elements it is able to describe the macro-segregation and the inclusion situation qualitatively and quantitatively within some minutes.
