Abstract | The paper presents the process of barium and strontium reduction by silicon and aluminium using the methods of thermodynamic simulation. The results have been realized during smelting of steel 25G2S in electric arc furnaces of the melting shop at West-Siberian Metallurgical Works. Obtained data have displayed that barium-strontium modifier effects actively on microstructure and non-metallic inclusions, provides increase of reserve of steel structural strength (estimated by impact toughness at negative temperature). It is concluded that production of coldresistant reinforced bars from steel 25G2S with guaranteed level of impact toughness for temperatures down to −60 oC is rather possible and even expedient. In the meantime, low residual barium and strontium content in metal doesn't allow to conclude about positive effect caused by transition of these elements in steel. It is recommended to examine the mechanism of influence of these elements on structure forming (probably, on nano-level). The work was supported by the analytical departmental target program "Development of Scientific Potential of Higher Education (2009-2011)" |
