Abstract

This paper gives an overview on the latest developments in iron ore agglomeration technologies for pelletizing, as well as for sintering. Traditional sintering and pelletizing technologies are using travelling grates, complemented by the steel belt technology, especially suited for agglomeration plants of smaller capacities. The pelletizing plant of VALE in Sа~o LuI's, with a travelling grate size of 768 m2 is the first in a row of the biggest plants in the world with capacities of up to 7.5 million t/a. This plant features several new technologies such as charge processing for pellets production by roller presses.
