This article considers information about the main directions of specialists` training in the mining-geological department of the Petrozavodsk State University.

Currently, there are two chairs at the Faculty: the Chair of Mining Engineering and the Chair of Geology and Geophysics. The Chair of Mining Engineering carries out the training of mining engineers for the "Open Mining" specialty. The training is conducted on the full-time course of study and part-time course of study. There are deeply studied the questions of powerful ore deposits development, extraction and processing of construction rocks for road metal production; production and processing of natural stones.

The Chair of Geology and Geophysics carries out the training for a "Geology" direction (bachelor's degree). Students receive modern knowledge about the deep structure of the Earth, the patterns of the mineral placement in the earth's crust, the methods of prospecting and estimation of reserves. Educational-laboratory base of the mining-geological faculty includes various laboratories, which are equipped with modern outfit.

The faculty is engaged in research and innovation work.

The faculty collaborates with mining enterprises, foreign and Russian research institutes.
