Gornyi Zhurnal (Mining Journal), issue 4, 2018 continues publications devoted to the 100th anniversary of the Moscow Mining Academy. The articles of this issue tell about the cooperation between the Moscow and Ural mining schools, the contribution made by the Moscow mining education institutions—successors to MMA—to the development of higher education in the field of mining in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), and about the role of MMA in engineering staff training for the peat mining industry in Russia.
Attention of mining specialists will be attracted by two articles under the heading Hybrid Geotechnology: Resource Saving and Energy Efficiency which focus on geomechanical aspects of further development of the Sokolov and Sarbay iron ore deposits in Kazakhstan.
A team of co-authors from the Russian State Geological Exploration University named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze headed by the new rector Professor V. A. Kosianov exchanges ideas on the ways of innovative development and growth of the mining and processing industry and raw materials supply base in Russia.
An important problem connected with the utilization of resource potential of mining waste is opened in the article prepared by the members of the North-East Interdisciplinary Scientific Research Institute named after N.A. Shilo, Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In terms of the Magadan Region, the authors illustrate feasibility of recovery of valuable minerals (rare earth elements, gold, tin, etc.) from mining waste. The legal measures to simplify licensing of mining waste management are proposed.
The other subject-oriented articles will be of interest for the specialists from the related areas of research.
