Our February 2021 issue of Gornyi Zhurnal contains all major sections as always.

 

The issue opens with two blocks of the articles on the occasion of the anniversaries of Komsomolsky Mine, NorNickel’s Polar Division and the Yakutniproalmaz Institute of ALROSA.

 

The articles of NorNickel’s fellows offer prospects for speeding up production output, describe the results of digitalization and automation of major process flows in underground mining and present an estimation procedure for the prediction and prevention of geodynamic events.

 

The articles of the Yakutniproalmaz Institute’s researchers tell on the primary activity, achievements and growth prospects of the Institute over a period of more than a half century. Furthermore, the specifics of diamond mining is discussed, the experience of geomechanical stability analysis of slopes and pit walls is generalized, the feasibility of recommencement of mining operations at Mir pipe is considered, and the experience of pilot blasting using emulsion explosives manufactured by NIPIGORMASH in the conditions of underground and surface mines is summarized.

 

The rest articles of this issue debate on mitigation of impact exerted by coal sea ports on the natural and social environment in compliance with the pollution control regulations, present the studies into garnet sands of the Kola Peninsula and coal briquette production from off-grade coal mining waste at Oi-Karagai deposit in Kazakhstan, analyze factors that can influence grain size composition of coal cut by shearers, describe the proprietary technology of integrated multistage coal seam drainage, overview the methods frequently used in the world in the acid flow risk management in coal mining waste storage and use, and present the principle stages of the in-house methodology for coal mining and combustion waste neutralization.
