Tsvetnye Metally

Issue № 12 — 2022 of Tsvetnye Metally features articles from the following sections: Beneficiation, Heavy Non-Ferrous Metals; Rare Metals, Semiconductors; Composites and Multipurpose Coatings; Materials Science, and Automation.

The authors of the article titled Substantiating the Use of Dithiopyril Methane As Collector of Gold Sulphides in Complex Ore Flotation relied on modern physico-chemical techniques to examine the interaction between dithiopyril methane (DTM) and gold. It was proved that the adsorption of DTM on pyrite with gold is 2.5 times higher than on the natural mineral. A series of flotation studies was carried out with porphyry-copper ore to demonstrate the effectiveness of DTM. When introduced as an additional reagent to potassium butyl xanthate, DTM helped raise the recovery of the key target metals into bulk flotation concentrate and at the same time of the noble ones.

The paper authored by experts from the Gipronikel Institute describes the results of a study that looked at the distribution of platinum group metals and gold as a result of pyrometallurgical depletion of copper-nickel slag by gas mixtures. In the course of the study, the authors revealed proneness of Au to get dissolved in silicate melts, which is also typical of Cu. The data reflecting the behavior of Au during slag depletion with reducing gas mixtures confirm that the maximum recovery of this metal from the slag would only be possible under a high reduction potential of the system. This corresponds to the minimum concentration of Fe in the bottom phase of 50 wt %.

The Rare Metals, Semiconductors section features two articles contributed by authors from the National Research Tomsk State University: Phase Composition and Optical Properties of Sol-Gel Derived TiO2 – CeO2 Films and Citrate-Nitrate Synthesis and Understanding the Properties of Yttrium Orthoaluminate-Based Luminophors.

The paper contributed by the SHS Research & Education Centre MISiS-ISMAN at MISiS reports on the use of forced SHS pressing to produce innovative MoAlB-base ceramics.

The Materials Science section features articles contributed by MISiS, Moscow; Institute of Continuum Mechanics at the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Perm; Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology at the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Krasnoyarsk; and National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, Moscow.

A special section marking the 200th anniversary of Gornyi Zhurnal and the 100th anniversary of Tsvetnye Metally features the following article: Forgotten Names. Leaders of the USSR Non-Ferrous Metallurgy in the 1920-1930s. This paper elaborates on the contribution made to the Soviet non-ferrous metals industry by A. P. Ivanov, V. S. Gulin, A. S. Shakhmuradov, who were in charge of the industry in the 1920-1930s. The paper describes their principal role in the establishment of the Soviet non-ferrous metals industry and building new production sites.

The December issue traditionally lists the entire contents of the journal for 2022.
