Abstract | The “Energoprom-Novosibirsk Electrode Plant” JSC carried out a great scope of activities, aimed at the development of production of new types of bottom blocks, which are the parts of furnace bottom lining in reduction сells. These blocks work as a cathode in electrolytic aluminium smelting process. One of advantages of bottom blocks of “Energoprom-Novosibirsk Electrode Plant” JSC is the use of high-quality fusain anthracites of Gorlovka coal-field. Originally, structural peculiarities of this raw material pre-determine the high mechanical stability and thermal shock resistance, which is urgent for active commissioning of high-temperature and high current load reduction cells. Thermal shock resistance of bottom blocks is determined as breaking strength under thermal and mechanical stresses, emerging in a solid body as a consequence of uneven distribution of temperature in its separate parts, or limited possibility for body thermal expansion. The samples of production lots of N-1, N-2, N-3 and N-4 bottom blocks were taken as the research target at “Energoprom-Novosibirsk Electrode Plant” JSC. For each sample of the specified types of blocks, the thermal resistance values were measured together with determination of physical and mechanical properties. The received data allow to forecast thermal shock resistance, according to the trends to change the specific resistance in connection with material flexural strength. Each of the N-1, N-2, N-3 and N-4 bottom blocks is intended for different designs of aluminum cells. |
