Scientific and Educational Center (SEC) was established under the auspices of MGRI–RSGPU and VIMS with a view to expand scientific and educational collaboration with research institutes in the fields of ore geology, mineralogy and geochemistry of minerals. SEC has a regulation. This document allows you to prepare coursework and a diploma thesis on various aspects of geological specialties. These works are carried out in VIMS. Students participate in field works. They do practical work in the territory of Russia. Students carry out laboratory studies and technological complex for minerals research. They are involved in the formation of the collection material of minerals and ores. Students have the right to use the fund of scientific and technical library. Mineral collection of VIMS has a special place in the process of learning and advanced training. This is a unique collection of samples from over 600 Russian and foreign deposits. Collection is a state heritage. It fosters knowledge about the conditions of formation, the material composition and technological properties of minerals. Collections of exposure are based on industrial typing of metallic and nonmetallic deposits. Exposure demonstrates the real state of the domestic mineral resource base of each ore types. It is compared with the foreign. This helps in the development of strategies for its improvement and development. The library of VIMS also plays a significant role as a source of information. It has the oldest and largest collection of books in the geologic industry of the country. All of its work is aimed at providing effective informational and library services to the staff of scientific research institutes, students and postgraduate students specializing in geology. In the context of SEC’s work it is possible to make full use of theoretical training in order to master practical skills in field and office work. The latter is successfully carried out in VIMS using the exhibition of industrial ores, the mineral collection as a whole and the unique library stock.
