Two Arvedi ESP plants will allow a Chinese steel producer to produce high-quality, thin-gauge hot strip. The energy consumption and the related costs are reduced by up to 45% compared to conventional casting and rolling processes. The plants are designed for an annual production capacity of two times 2.55 million t of high-quality, ultra-thin, hot-rolled strip products with widths of up to 1,600 mm and thicknesses down to 0.8 mm. The project scope also features a comprehensive training and assistance package for plant start-up and operations. When ESP concept has been inaugurated in the beginning of XXI century, many iron and steel experts doubted in its technological opportunities. However, after several years of successful operation, the positive results of production at Kremona works of Arvedi company have confirmed high level of competitiveness of Arvedi ESP technology at strong markets of high-quality hot-rolled steel strip. Advantages of the new technology are confirmed not only by very growing and very attractive thin strip market, but also they are evident for heavy plates, because homogeneity of properties and high quality are always required in different market segments. The potential of efficiency due to lowering of consumption of alloying elements and energy resources, as well as high output, don’t depend on sort of product.
