Abstract | Flatness is an important quality characteristic during production and further processing of sheets and strips. The demand for higher availability of flatness measurement of stainless steel strips in processing lines initiated the development of a hybrid system. This works optically, contactless and independently from the present reflective properties of the surface to be measured. Since the beginning of 1990-ies, the TopPlan system for measurement of strip flatness or heavy plate planeness has been put into operation successfully. So, the TopPlan Reflekt system can be used for measurement of strip topography with mirror surface. In the case if one of the systems does not cover the whole production dimension range, the TopPlan Hybrid system is used. Both these system have been mounted and tested on the experimental stand at BFI and in the production unit at Outokumpu Nirosta. It was shown that the measurement results of TopPlan Reflekt have been used for conduction of investigations of fl atness variation in the light annealing line. Additionally, registration of luster degree have been conducted. It is recommended to decrease the measurement area for the surfaces with high refl ecting ability with short wave deviations from flatness. |
