The metallurgical industry produces significant quantities of waste, most of which is returned to the metallurgical processing. Processing of technogenous waste using modern equipment and innovative technology allows to get the products at a lower cost. Significant amounts of slag are used in steel production, mainly to enhance the content of lime and iron in blast furnaces by the addition of the charge. Depending on the content of phosphorus in pig iron, cast iron is produced via one-slag repartition process (with the phosphorus content of less than 0.35 %) or double-slag process (with a phosphorus content of 0.35 %). In the case of iron double-slag processing, an intermediate slag is induced to remove phosphorus, and the technology of one-slag process is realized after pouring of intermediate slag. Magnetic part of separation products is directed to the metallurgical processing, while non-magnetic – is sent to the dump. Reduced phosphorus content in the fine fractions of converter slag comparing with larger particles testifies about non-uniform phosphorus distribution in slag and allows to offer the use of waste slag fines in the sinter production. Additionally, phosphorus redistribution between separate phases of converter slag determines possibility of using it as a further resource alternative to phosphoric ore. Calculations have shown that introduction of 3 kg of converter slag reduces the total cost of raw materials by 5,129-6,855 mln. USD per year with an annual productivity 4,596 mln t of sinter.
