Abstract

This article, prepared for the 100th anniversary of the Moscow Mining Academy (MMA), gives a brief historical overview of one of the venerable chairs – Mining Safety and Ecology Department at the College of Mining in the framework of the National University for Science and Technology MISIS. Today the Department provides training for mining engineers and highly qualified scientific staff. The article describes the research activities and training specialties at the Department. The main activity of the Department at all times was and remains education and instruction the field of mining safety and training of qualified specialists for the mining industry of the country. In total, more than 60 thousand mining engineers and more than 250 candidates and doctors of science have been prepared Publication of 29 textbooks (2 books are published abroad) makes more than half of all textbooks on mine aerology and mining safety issued in the country since 1930. The extensive scientific research was carried out concurrently. The priority direction of development of the department is the scientific research in the field of ecology and safety of mining operations. The Department provides mining engineer training in 2 special programs: Technological Safety and Mine Rescue and Mining Ecology, as well as offers Master’s and postgraduate courses.
