Abstract | In the history of Russian mining art the middle of the last century is marked out as the beginning of realization the strategy of large-scale and intensive development of surface mining operations. Designing and construction of large miningprocessing integrated works in the Urals, north-west of the country, in the region of KMA, Siberia, in the Ukraine, republics of Middle Asia required scientific-technical aid and accompaniment practically in all spheres of technique, technology and organization of surface mining operations as well as conducting fundamental and theoretical investigations in this sphere aimed at long-term efficient development of large open pits. For these purposes in February, 1962 by the resolution of the RSFSR Council of Ministers the specialized Institute of Mining of the Ural Branch AS USSR was generated with the laboratories of surface mining operations, rock pressure and pit edges stability, explosive operations and mine aerology. For the 50 years since the Institute of Mining has been founded in the Urals, great practice of conducting fundamental and applied investigations has been accumulated, powerful personnel potential of highly qualified specialists, including the whole cohort of outstanding and widely-known scientists has been formed. Having received the status of innovative type academic establishment 15 years ago, the institute demonstrates the new merit and effectiveness of investigations and developments, the authors of which are marked by high state awards, titles, distinguishing badges and prestigious nominal prizes. The number of young research workers in the IM UB RAS for the latest 10 years has augmented from 8,7 up to 36,6 %. They are to provide continuity, preservation and development of the best traditions and at the same time to turn their up-to-date knowledge and young energy to further modernization of mining science and practice. |
