Tsvetnye Metally

The subjects of "Tsvetnye Metally (Non-ferrous metals) journal (October, 2015) are traditional: non-ferrous metal ore benefication, rare and light metals, noble metals and alloys, composite coatings, material science. This journal illustrates the issues of theory and practice of production and processing of non-ferrous metals, complex use of crude ore, economics and management of production.

This year is the 85-th anniversary of a Chair of Casting Process Technology (National University of Science and Technology «MISiS»), including two scientific schools: «Innovation casting technologies» and «Phase transformations and development of alloys on the basis of non-ferrous metals». The specialists of this chair wrote a number of articles for this issue.

The item «Benefication» includes the article about the sampling of overflows and lump copper-nickel converter matte.

The article by the authors from the D. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia tells about the process of electrochemical oxidation of Ce (III) – Ce (IV) ions in nitric acid solutions for the purpose of further separation from accompanying REM.

The article by E. I. Boev and M. A. Glagoleva shows the results of the testing of use of cathode-luminophore KFL-544 (КФЛ-544) for the production of image converter tube screens. The obtained data are the evidence of its availability (according to the characteristics) regarding the imported luminophore R-43 (Р-43).

The article, included in the section «Composite materials and multifunctional coatings», tells about the magnesium oxide and hydroxyapatite coating, obtained by plasma electrolytic oxidation on magnesium alloy surface. This article shows the results of research of phase and element composition, morphology and anti-corrosion properties of coatings.

Fast neutron reactors are the basis of the global atomic power engineering. Metallic fuel, based on U – Mo, U – Zr, (U, Pu) – Zr alloys, is traditionally considered as a nuclear fuel for fast neutron reactors. The article by D. P. Shornikov shows the basic research results of porous metallic nuclear fuel on the basis of uranium and molybdenium alloys with zirconium. There is considered the possibility of application of high-voltage electropulse consolidation for obtaining of uranium alloy tablets.

The article by the authors from Nizhniy Novgorod tells about the modern aspects of application of neutron-absorbent corrosion-resistant steels and alloys in nuclear engineering units. Introduction of certain amount of gadolinium in steels and alloys significantly increases the ability of materials to absorb neutrons during the provision of construction reliability due to saving of high technological, physical-mechanical and corrosion properties of basic material. As a result of offered complex researches and testings, there will be created the basis of wide application of gadolinium-containing materials in prospective designs of neutron absorbers of temporary and centralized storages and containers for transportation of irradiated fuel and in constructions of protection screens of power reactor facilities.
