Chernye Metally
The 7th issue of “Chernye Metally” journal (2017) contains the most of its conventional sections. It is opened, as usual, by the section “Iron and steel news of the world” and “News of metallurgical companies”.
The first article (“Continuous casting” section) is devoted to the semi-continuous casting process SCIC for special steels. Another publication in this section describes new possibilities of Dillinger company in mastering of grade and dimension ranges for vertical continuous casters manufacturing thick slabs.
Three papers are devoted to rolling processes. The first of them observes optimization of rolls at hot rolling mills by Sulzau-Werfen company, the second presents up-to-date technologies of roll manufacture for heavy plate mills by Walzen Irle, and the third gives recommendations for the continuous rolling technology of complicated shapes at EVRAZ Consolidated West-Siberian Metallurgical Works.
A.P. Kolikov and his colleagues has analyzed the results of simulation of plastic forming of strip billet in large diameter tube making and has evaluated the stress-strain parameters of metal along the whole technological chain. Another article on tube and pipe production is prepared by Byelorussian specialists; they have done metallographic analysis of plug structure, have examined chemical and phase composition of oxidized coating as well as distribution of the elements and identification of coating substructure.
The section “Power engineering and ecology” is opened by the paper of DeVeTec company about energy plants for self-produced waste heat. These plants maximally use secondary energy from industrial processes with simultaneous electric current generation. Another articles in this section consider the problems of cutting CO2 emissions at the works of POSCO, SSAB and thyssenkrupp.
The issue also includes publications in the following sections: “HR policy and labour protection”, “Economics and finances” and “Heirs of Prometeus”. Publication in the last section is devoted to Anatoly Dyakov, the famous scientist, astronomer by education and mission, who has worked for many decades in the helio-meteorological laboratory at Kuznetsk metallurgical works in Western Siberia.
