Gornyi Zhurnal
The spotlight of the September 2022 (No. 9) issue of Gornyi Zhurnal is on R&D and industrial know-how in the present day mining art.
The issue describes:
—the research findings aimed to enhance efficiency of oil prospecting and exploration, including shale oil being a new source of oil in East China;
—the growth prospects of the mining industry in Russia’s Far Eastern Federal District which produces around 18 metallic minerals;
—the risk concept to provide an integrated understanding of geomechanical risk in open pit mining;
—the blasting-induced seismicity at different open pit mines in Karelia;
—the applicability of the acoustic emission-based monitoring of soil stability after physicochemical stabilization to obtain hard information on softening processes in foundation soil and in soil bodies, and to prevent subsidence, movements, landslides and other hazardous phenomena;
—the commercial operation of program modules developed for the mine planning and design automation at Uralkali;
—the availability of the advanced water management technologies to replenish groundwater reserves in the Orenburg Region and the efficiency of the technology owing to accumulation of flood water in the local river, etc.
An interesting article in the Section “History of Mining. Culture” tells on forced labor of special contingent in the coal industry in the USSR in the 1930s–50s based on the History of Stalin’s GULAG and on other historical publications on this subject.
The issue also offers other articles useful for theory and practice.
